November 2015: Toiletries Drive for Citizenship
The Character Trait for November is Citizenship. Additionally, during the month of November, MDCPS Division of Student Services will be acknowledging Homeless Awareness Month. The intent of Homeless Awareness Month is to have students and school personnel become aware of and sensitive to the needs of homeless individuals in our schools and community. According to the National Coalition of the Homeless, there are an estimated 5.1 million homeless persons in the United States, and the number is increasing each year. Miami-Dade County Public School’s Project UP-START is a Homeless Education Program which provides help for students who are homeless and assists in county-wide homeless awareness.
Many organizations collect canned food in November; as a result, the Food Banks are well stocked. West Lab will collect canned food in the Spring when the Food Banks are depleted and need it the most.
West Lab will show our good Citizenship and also help the Homeless by collecting full sized or travel sized toiletries for Project UP-START Homeless students and families
